Is Barack Obama a Christian? I told you in my last blog that I have never endorsed a presidential candidate or been political in my ministry. I simply stated that for many years I was hoping that an African American would be elected president. At one time I thought it might be Colin Powell, because I felt he was certainly qualified. I thought it was time for America to make a statement.
First of all I want to say to the African American community that Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream was being fulfilled as he prophetically declared, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
Secondly, to every American regardless of their race that we are all created in the image of God. Thirdly to the world, that America is truly, “the home of the brave and the land of the free,” enough to make changes.
I realize that many of you are concerned about President-elect Obama’s stand on abortion and same sex marriages. I will tell you I have concerns as well, but I am encouraged by his book, “The Audacity of Hope.” In the book he says …”perhaps we could agree on a way to reduce the number of women who felt the need to have abortions in the first place.” My point is, regardless of how you voted we Americans have elected the first African American to be our president. He is not just the president of Democrats; he is also the president of Republicans. He is the president of all Americans. We may disagree with some of his policies, even from what we consider to be against Biblical truth. However, I hope you remember many of the kings that God chose in the Bible were flawed, but they were still ordained by God.
I have heard a few people say some very harsh things that I believe are unfair and without merit things like he is a Muslim or he is the anti-Christ. He has declared that he is a Christian. In his book he tells us how he walked down the aisle of his church and accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized. The bible says, (1 John 4:2-3 NKJV); “By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the [spirit] of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.” Barack Obama has confessed Jesus Christ is his Lord and Savior.
My prayer for Barack Obama is that God will use him like he did Barak in the Bible, Judges Chapters 4 and 5. Deborah and Barak were used by God to defeat the enemies of Israel, Sisera, “And the hand of the children of Israel prospered…” (Judges 4:24 KJV) This was a battle that was more than a battle on earth. It was a battle that was fought from the heavens. ”They fought from heaven; the stars in there courses fought against Sisera.”(Judges 5:20 KJV) I pray that Barack Obama will be listed in the hall of faith along with Moses, Joshua, Gideon, Sampson, David, Samuel, Barak, and the prophets.
Is it a sign that proposition 8 in California that defined marriage as a union between one man and one woman, would not have passed if it weren’t for the African American vote? Black Americans voted for it by over 70%, while a majority of white voters were against it. God may be up to something we do not know. (Isaiah 55:8&9 KJV),”For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
My dear friends, I realize that I view things through the lens of hope, grace, and mercy; because that is the gift God gave me, the gift of hope!
